OUR REGENERATIVE PROJECTS

Forested works with aggregates of smallholder farmers, all of whom employ some principles of regenerative and/or conservation agriculture. Learn more about our Regenerative Principles. See below for our current regenerative project offerings.

Honey in Ethiopia

Amongst Ethiopia’s forest land stewards, honey is synonymous with conservation. Forested has been working across three UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and partnering with community-led conservation groups to protect these ecosystems through regenerative beekeeping and honey production.

Regenerative Interventions

  • Reforestation

  • Composting

  • Pollinator Health

Castor in Kenya

Forested works with indigenous communities in Kenya’s savannah and woodland landscapes practicing conservation agriculture and restoration. Our regenerative project supports these communities’ access to reforestation inputs and training, alongside expansion of regenerative castor production utilizing the following practices:

Regenerative Interventions

  • Endemic tree seedlings

  • Pollinator health

  • Water resource management

  • Agroprocessing upskilling

Forested also provides monitoring and evaluation resources to community members to quantify carbon, nature, and community impact.

Shea in Uganda

Uganda’s endemic Shea species, Vitellaria nilotica, is not only an endangered species, but has untapped socio-economic potential for land stewards and refugees, especially women, conserving and residing in Uganda’s northern landscapes. Our regenerative project supports conservation and reforestation of Shea trees in Uganda and women-led production of shea butter. Interventions include:

Regenerative Interventions

  • Composting

  • Multi-strata reforestation

  • Community-led MRV

  • Solar-based agro-processing

Verified Carbon Insets

Insetting is an approach that allows companies to directly reduce carbon emissions within their own supply chains. Rather than buying carbon credits to offset their emissions, companies can invest in projects that actively sequester or reduce carbon within their value chains, and strengthen relationships with their supply chain stakeholders (e.g. producers, traders, co-manufacturers).

Forested’s Ingredient Insets is your one-stop shop to source ingredients and access verifiable Scope 3 reductions units. We specialize in developing insetting projects based on regenerative agriculture and conservation principles, such as agroforestry and beekeeping. We work with agri-businesses across East Africa to implement these projects, focusing on enhancing livelihoods for farming communities from promoting ecosystem conservation and restoration.

Our monitoring and verification system tracks carbon sequestration and nature-positive metrics. For clients that choose, we work with 3rd parties for verified carbon reduction units. These verified units allow companies to claim emissions reductions proportional to the volume of product sourced. Forested ensures that when companies invest in insetting, they are compensating farming communities directly for their carbon and nature impact contributions.

How to engage?

When you participate in our insetting program, each kilogram of product you purchase corresponds to a verifiable carbon amount reduced and removed. Interested in participating or learning more, contact us here
